Westport Deep Sea Fishing School

The staff at the WDSFS provide both theory and practical training in Vessel operations and seafood processing skills. We aim to give a skill set that allows our students to complete a training trip on a deepwater vessel to a standard that will give them the offer of full time employment.

Along with these skills we provide fitness classes 4 days a week and operate a drug and alcohol free environment. Drug testing is compulsory for all students and we have the first test 5 weeks into the course.Any student worried about the drug test will have cleaned up after 5 weeks at the school and so has no fear of failing. Drug testing is a part of seafood industry pre employment training and employee screening by seafood companies

Along with work based skills we get our student's work ready by fitness training 4 days a week, daily room inspections, Friday morning room cleaning and scrubbing of rooms. Also all students take part in cleaning duties and setting out of the mess room at the Hostel. Personal hygiene is also a major part of our program in both education and as an ongoing activity.
