The Westport Deep Sea Fishing School is registered with NZQA as a Private Training Establishment and delivers two level 2 National certificates to students during a 20 week training program. Our program is made of both training ashore and sea time on fishing vessels.

We are committed to placing students into full time employment in the Fishing Industry with leading company's such as Amaltal Fishing Ltd, Sanford Fishing Ltd and Sealord Group Ltd.

The WDSFS cannot guarantee employment, this must be earned by the students during a work based training voyage.

The school is based in Westport and offers a residential program that is suited to the development of skills suited by the fishing industry.

Main requirements for employment apart from work skills are to be drug free, fit and healthy and to have a high standard of personal hygiene.
